What Is “LOSTUniversity?”

picture-1What is LOSTUniversity?  The early word was a new ARG,  the ‘reality’ (pun intended) is that with a little close examination it appears to be something far different.

The site basically offers courses for students looking for a degree in LOST.  However, there is nothing fake about the facilitators of the individual classes.  A few google searches will reveal that the ‘professors’ are real people and experts in their fields.  Intriguing.  This probably means the head shots scattered about are from video that has been shot.

To me, this seems like it is a break down of the richer and more complicated themes and aspects of the LOST story for folks who spend no where near the amount of time thinking about the show as we do.  (Sorry, I didn’t mean to call you a geek). It also appears this is a part of the LOST season 5 DVD. From LostUniversity.org:

Semester 1 begins on December 8, 2009. Pick up LOST: THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON on Blu-rayTM Hi-Def, complete enrollment, and personalize your course schedule as you build credits toward Semester 2

I suppose common sense would suggest that Semester 2 begins with LOST Season 6.  It would definitely be great to see something like this continue on throughout the season for the hard core fans, rather than serve as a build up.  But we’ll see.  I’m sure the show itself will keep us plenty busy.

NOTE:  You will be able to register for classes September 22nd!

Another interesting note:  check out who is facilitating the Jungle Survival Basics class.

Don’t forget to visit our NEW LostUniversity Forum to share your discoveries and find out what others may have found. (Or, what ‘others’ may have been found… yuck yuck)/

Awesome! I can’t wait to see what they have going on!

  • Daver

Enrollment for the first semester of LOST University will be open to all students beginning September 22nd, 2009. At that time, you will take a placement exam and be given a Student ID, as well as be able to watch your LOST University introductory class, LOST 101.

    THEN

Semester 1 begins on December 8, 2009, at which point you will be able to choose and enroll in all of your classes, as you build credits toward Semester 2 and graduation. In the meantime, feel free to browse the online course catalog and get a head start with some of your recommended reading.

In regards to the professor who is on sabbatical, I’m expecting his or her name to be identical to mine as an homage to my awesomeness.

I am fairly excited about this. The Egyptian classes will be a boon as to the approach by the writers and producers and how can anybody pass up a course taught by Jeremy Davies.

does the first semester starting the same day as the blue-ray release mean that you need the blue-ray to access the content? I plan on only collecting the dvds until the complete series comes out on blue ray.

  • Early signs are that these are part of the interactive Blu-Ray special features.

  • Trixired

After going through the site I really hope they also do this special feature on the regular DVD’s. I’m not going to go out and buy a Blu-ray when I have a very nice system that works great already at home. Not to meantion having to replace everything I already own on DVD. They will tick-off a lot of us loyal fans who aren’t made of money and have been following all of the “extra” features since the beginning if they discriminate against non-Bluray owners.

Blu-rays are really not expensive and if you have the dvd’s you can get 20bucks back on each disc. Oh, also, LOST looks freakin incredible on blu-ray and if you haven’t seen it this way and are a fan you are freakin’ missin’ out!

I am sure anything on blu-ray will also be available on the internet, but I am guessing that it is highly likely that their will be exclusive content on the blu-ray. That is how it was for seasons 3 and 4.
