Today, Apple gave a preview of the next iPhone OS to developers. Something quite interesting that I noticed while finding images of the presentation online is a reference to Oceanic Flight 815. Take a look for yourslef. Someone high up within Apple is a fan of Lost!

If any of you would like to find the image for yourself, you can watch the presentation on “Oceanic Flight 815” appears durring the Copy-and-Paste demonstartion in

More than likely some programmer put that in for test data. Don’t read too much into it.

What do you mean? Wether a higher up or just “some programmer” it’s still pretty cool to see the far reaching appeal of Lost has once again made it’s way into the mainstream. From a mention on a show on a competing network ( NBC’s Chuck ) to a nod in a widely released film ( Zack and Miri Make A Porno ) to interest from TV personalities ( Jimmy Kimmel and Al Trautwig ), it’s just pretty cool. It just shows cultural impact it has across the board. There are not that man films or tv shows out there that have enjoyed that kind of status. And yet ( no dig here, I’m a big fan of the formulaic sitcom ) Two And A Half Men is always in the top 10 rated shows week after week. Is there a programmer out there that loves that show so much that they would go out of their way to have it featured during the unveilling of the new iphone? I’m just sayin’ give props where they are due.

Scott chuckled along with the audience during the demo, and he even said something like “So let’s say I want to fly Oceanic Flight 815.” Scott’s high up within and Apple and was clearly in on the joke, as was the audience as many people started laughing when he said that. 😉

The combination of Mac coolness factor and seeing a reference to Oceanic Flight 815 is really a delight! (Like Smitty, my intro to the Mac was in 1988.) This is not the first time Apple has incorporated Lost material in its product info. Some months back I recall a demo (possibly iLIFE) where they displayed a sample “letter”, which upon close examination was John Locke apologizing to Jack for putting a knife in Noemi’s back and suggesting they “bury the hatchet” – only to note ironically that might not have been the best figure of speech to use for the occasion. I’m not having any success finding the specific reference but perhaps someone else recalls it.

  • Nice Post, better still I’m able to view it on my new iPhone.

  • Great write up. The iPhone is truly amazing and I don’t like being without it. This time last year I had jumped in a pool with my iPhone and it was dead. I had to wait 10 days before I was able to get a new one. The phone I had was a cheap go phone. I really love all the apps that can be downloaded to the iPhone. The best part about the iPhone to me is the ability to check emails on the go. Thanks for the information.

  • Cool ideas here, thanks. I honestly took the plunge and got me some chickens last week! Now I have so many eggs like you wouldn’t believe. You might like these egg recipes.
